You Again - Friendship Flick

Saturday night was movie night with Debbie. Watching a fun movie with her is right up there as one of my favorite things to do. Of course, we are in our sweats, no make-up, made a fun dinner, and mixed a great drink. The only thing missing was chocolate. Well another time.

Because Mermaids of the Lake is celebrating friendship this issue, we thought a good movie with that theme was in order. You Again is a funny, yet wholesome movie.

We had a lot of good laughs! But, even better was the message: hurt people hurt people. When you're hurting, you hurt those around you. And, the characters in this video overcame hurts and pride to mend and reestablish friendship. It was great.

Sunflowers in January?

I just finished watching Under the Tuscan Sun...again. What is it about this movie that gets to me? Of course, who wouldn't want to own a three hundred year old Italian villa, surrounded by olive trees. What sane woman doesn't yearn for the romance of Florence! And, oh, the sumptuous colors and mind-blowing food!

Some say this film has a formula plot and lacks depth. Well, I think that's a good thing sometimes. I'm a pretty serious movie critic. However, this escape into fantasy makes me imagine coastal regions. Long walks on sun warmed beaches. I can feel the wind blowing through my loose hair as I ride my little Vespa down ancient cobbled streets. Mmmm, the glorious taste of big, juicy grapes plucked from vine. Water fountains and statuary beckon a certain playfulness. All of these and more race through my imagination.

There are many movies that have beautiful cinematography and plots that make you weepy over love lost and love found. And, there are definitely many more films worthy of serious analysis. So, what is it that keeps me coming back to this particular movie over and over again?

I think it's because it resonates with my eternally optimistic temperament. I believe in things beautiful. I believe wishes and dreams can come true. Even on these dark and dreary January days, I believe summer will come. And, seeing the glorious sunflowers in this film I have to believe that blue skies, sun soaked days, and love are right around the corner!
